Joint Statement Technology is an ever-increasing part of our society. Ongoing developments in technology have created exciting new educational tools to engage students and enhance their learning. Technology provides many unique learning experiences that were not possible before the digital age. Information and communications technology (ICT) creates endless possibilities for the world of education and how we teach and learn. More schools are continuing to integrate technology into their programs, making ICT an increasingly important part of the Australian curriculum. |

However, with this technology comes the necessary requirement of teacher proficiency. It is essential that teachers are equipped with the skills and knowledge required to effectively use ICT tools. With the rate that technology is growing and developing, teachers must continually stay informed and educated about educational technology and how it can enhance the classroom environment.
This unit, ED2631 (Transforming Learning through ICT), is essential to our Master of Teaching (Secondary) course. It provides us with insight into the different educational technology available today and how it can enhance student learning in our classrooms. This is important to us as pre-service teachers because it gives us an insight into ICT in education today, preparing us for our placements and subsequent careers. This unit also provides us with the opportunity to create the ICT integration project. This project requires us to integrate different ICT tools to create an online Web Quest that enables students to engage with the curriculum in an exciting way. The completion of this Web Quest will provide us with invaluable ICT knowledge and skills, and the Web Quest itself will be a tool that we will be able to use in our own classrooms in the future.
The ICT integration project Web Quest needs to encompass four integrated lessons on a topic. These lessons must make use of different ICT technologies that engage with the Australian Curriculum to provide an engaging and exciting learning experience for students. The Web Quest should be underpinned by an established learning theory such as Social Constructivism. It should provide students with a collaborative, interactive experience that enhances their learning. |
